Met office predicts heavy rain in Mumbai till Wednesday

Moving away from the trend observed over the last three days, weathermen predicted heavy to very heavy rain for the next three days from Monday onwards, along the Konkan coast, including Mumbai.

The city remained cool for the third consecutive day as a thick cloud cover with sporadic spells of light showers continued on Monday, leading to a drop in temperatures by 5 degree Celsius below normal.

Moving away from the trend observed over the last three days, weathermen predicted heavy to very heavy rain for the next three days from Monday onwards, along the Konkan coast, including Mumbai.

“The upper air cyclonic circulation over Vidarbha has intensified, which is pulling a lot of moisture from the Arabian Sea. Mumbai and surrounding areas can expect heavy rain to continue till Wednesday,” said Shubhangi Bhute, director, regional meteorological centre, Mumbai, that comes under India Meteorological Department (IMD). “The thick cloud cover, with hardly any sunshine, has led to the drop in temperature. It is likely to remain cool till Wednesday.”

Owing to the sky being murky through the day with hardly any sunshine, the day temperature at south Mumbai was 5.1 degree Celsius below normal — at 26.5 degree Celsius. The maximum temperature at the suburbs too was 4.7 degree Celsius below normal — standing at 27.3 degrees Celsius.

Night temperatures, on the other hand were a degree Celsius below normal on Monday. While Colaba recorded 24.3 degrees Celsius, 0.8 degree Celsius below normal, 23 degrees Celsius was recorded at Santacruz, which was 1.5 degree Celsius below normal.

Weathermen also predicted heavy to very heavy rain for north Madhya Maharashtra and rain at isolated areas at interior Maharshtra for the next 24 hours.
