Mumbai biker tries to avoid parked car gets run over by garbage truck

Mumbai city news: The truck driver, Arafat Siddique, 25, was arrested and booked for rash driving and causing death by negligence under the Indian Penal Code.

A motorcyclist was run over by a dump truck after he tried to avoid a stationary car with a flat type on the Eastern Express Highway (EEH) on Sunday afternoon.

Chetan Gautam Rajput, 37, a central government employee and resident of CGS colony in Bhandup (East), was riding on northbound stretch of the flyover at Pirojshanagar, Vikhroli (East), when the accident took place at 12.10pm.

A Hyundai i-10 with a flat tyre was parked on the flyover and its driver was signaling to other motorists to prevent an accident. Seeing him, Rajput changed lanes but got too close to a speeding truck, was knocked off his bike and run over. “A police vehicle was nearby and Rajput was rushed to a nearby hospital,” said Santosh Patil, a police sub inspector at Vikhroli police station.

Rajput sustained grievous injuries and was declared dead at the hospital. The truck driver, Arafat Siddique, 25, was arrested and booked for rash driving and causing death by negligence under the Indian Penal Code. He was produced in a local court, which granted him bail.

The EEH has seen a spate of accidents recently. “Motorists riding or driving on the wide highway suddenly find themselves on a narrow flyover. Crisscrossing and lane-changing causes many accidents,” said a police officer.
