Former Maharashtra deputy chief minisiter Chhagan Bhujbal, one of the main accused in a multi-crore money laundering case, was shifted back to Sir JJ Hospital from the private Bombay Hospital on Wednesday evening.

Following media reports about Bhujbal’s unwarranted stay at Bombay Hospital, top officials from the state police department ordered the jail authorities to shift Bhujbal to the state-run hospital for further treatment, said a source from the prisons department.

Dr TP Lahane, dean, JJ Hospital, said Bhujbal will undergo an angiography soon. “The doctors will look at his condition, after which they will perform the procedure,” he said.

According to reports, officials from the Enforcement Directorate, during a surprise check found Bhujal was allotted a ‘highly luxurious room’ in Bombay Hospital.

Bhujbal was shifted to Bombay Hospital on November 2 for a medical test (thallium scan) that requires barely a few hours, said doctors from Sir JJ Hospital. They said the test cannot be conducted at any government-run hospital. While doctors from Bombay Hospital said they had informed the police to make arrangements to shift Bhujbal back to JJ Hospital, the police said it was the hospital’s responsibility to ensure he was shifted.
