Nearly 24 hours after a 16 year-old girl fell into a water-filled mine at Powai, a rescue team recovered her body. The girl, Fiza Firoz Khan, allegedly fell while relieving herself at Rambaug Khadan opposite the Powai police station.

The body was sent to Rajawadi Hospital at Ghatkopar.
The civic body’s disaster management cell received a level 1 rescue call around 5pm on Tuesday, after which National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) officials, the Mumbai fire brigade and local police went to the spot.
“After we found some of the girl’s belongings around the mine and spoke to the locals, we realised that the girl might have fallen inside. One of the divers was finally able to recover the body,” said an NDRF official.
He added that the girl’s parents had asked the Powai police to lodge a missing person complaint.
