NCP to get dhol group Hotplay to perform in lanes of Coldplay’s event venue

‘Coldplay’ is scheduled to perform in Mumbai as part of a charity concert organised by Global Citizen, an international social action platform

To protest against the government’s support to Coldplay, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) plans to get Hotplay – the name given by the party to a traditional dhol band – to perform on all six lanes leading to Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), where the British rock band is scheduled to perform on November 19.

‘Coldplay’ is scheduled to perform in Mumbai as part of a charity concert organised by Global Citizen, an international social action platform. Global Citizen has clarified the amount collected from the concert will be used for various social causes. However, the NCP termed it farce on grounds that poverty cannot be controlled by organizing such concerts and the state government should not have given concessions to them.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to attend the concert.

“Tickets of the concert will cost each person around Rs25,000. Liquor will be served to all those attending the concert. Despite that, the state government has granted several concessions,” party spokespman Nawab Malik said, questioning how a concert of such type can help in eradicating poverty.
