Police arrest two men from Mumbai hotel with fake papers, Bangladeshi held with bogus identity proof

Mumbai city news: The police arrested two men, one of whom had an Aadhaar card and a Nepali passport on him, from a hotel in Sakinaka on Tuesday. DN Nagar police arrested a Bangladeshi national for trying to get an Indian passport with fake documents.

In separate incidents this week, the police arrested four people for possessing fake identity documents.

The police arrested two men, one of whom had an Aadhaar card and a Nepali passport on him, from a hotel in Sakinaka on Tuesday.

The hotel owner had informed them about two suspicious men who had not stepped out of their room for two days.

During investigation, the police recovered 25 Indian passports from them, all belonging to clients who needed fake documents for tourist visas.

According to Sakinaka police, Suraj Shreshta, 35 is a resident of Delhi and Bijaykumar Pradhan, 47, is from Kolkata. Shreshta showed his Aadhaar card on being asked to produce an ID proof but the police found a Nepali passport which showed him to be from Chitwan.

The police also found a laptop, printers, fake bank statements and cover letters in the name of reputed companies.

The two made fake documents for their clients to get tourist visas for Japan, Poland and Slovenia among other countries. They have been remanded to police custody by a magistrate court on Wednesday for further probe. The passports belong to people from Hariyana, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.

Abdul Karim Shaikh has been living in India for 19 years with these fake documents, which show that he is Indian. He was caught when his documents were being verified for the passport.

The DN Nagar police said that an official from the special branch had registered an FIR with them against the Shaikh, 47, and his wife Nargis, 39. Both entered India 19 years ago and lived in Janta Colony in Gilbert Hill Road.

Officers from the special branch verified his birth certificate with the BMC found that it had never issued such a certificate. Shaikh confessed that he got his forged for Rs2,000.

Shaikh used it to get a ration card and PAN card. The couple has been arrested for cheating, forgery and illegally entering India. The couple has a 15-year-old son and three daughters aged 17, 13 and 8 years.
