Pollution level spikes at Andheri, one of the highest this year

Other locations in Mumbai recorded pollution levels similar to previous days with Navi Mumbai, Malad and Bandra Kurla Complex, all recording ‘very poor’ AQI levels

Andheri observed a huge spike in pollution levels on Monday as the pollutant-measuring indicator – air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 330 (very poor), which was one of the highest for the area this year.

Other locations in Mumbai recorded pollution levels similar to previous days with Navi Mumbai, Malad and Bandra-Kurla Complex, all recording ‘very poor’ AQI levels and remaining stations falling under either the ‘poor’ or ‘moderate’ categories.

Overall pollution level in Mumbai went up as the AQI increased from Sunday’s 242 to 261 on Monday, falling under the ‘poor’ category, according to the System of Air Quality Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR).

An AQI between 201 and 300 is considered poor, that between 301 and 400 is ‘very poor’, which means people with heart or lung disease, elderly people and children should reduce prolonged or heavy exertion.

The System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR) predicted an AQI of 259 (poor) for Tuesday.
