Joyride turns tragic as teen biker dies in accident on Mumbai’s JJ flyover

According to the Pydhonie police, the victim, Iraz Rajuddin Khan, was riding pillion, while his friend Mohammed Osman, 20, was riding without a helmet.

A joyride after iftar turned tragic as a 19-year-old boy was killed and his friend was injured in a bike accident on JJ flyover on Wednesday night. The incident occurred when the bike, a Pulsar, crashed into a divider on the flyover.

According to the Pydhonie police, the victim, Iraz Rajuddin Khan, was riding pillion, while his friend Mohammed Osman, 20, was riding without a helmet. They were both residents of VB Nagar in Kurla.

Osman and Khan broke their Ramzan fast around 10.30pm and headed towards Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) along with their biker friends. The group decided to return after crossing JJ flyover, said senior inspector Avinash Kanade. He said the bikers were speeding and evaded the patrolling vans on the south-bound stretch of the flyover.

When Khan and Osman reached the curve above the Mandvi Post Office, the latter lost control and crashed the bike into the divider. The youth were thrown off the bike and their heads hit the divider.

Kanade added that the police did not find any helmet at the spot. Bikers are barred from taking JJ flyover. “We stop bikers from entering JJ Flyover but some of them at times manage to give us the slip,” said Kanade.
