Heavy waterlogging in various parts of the city led to traffic snarls on Friday morning. While the Western Express Highway bore the brunt of the constant downpour, most areas in the island city were faced with slow-moving traffic.

Senior inspectors and traffic policemen from the 34 divisions in Mumbai are currently out on the roads where waterlogging has been reported.

Motorists on the southbound stretch of the Western Express Highway had to wade through the bad weather and slow-moving traffic. The stretch between Borivli and Vakola was severely affected. Around 11am, the traffic on the northbound stretch from Bandra towards Santacruz also slowed down.

Eastern Express Highway also witnessed snarls, especially on the Sion Flyover, until noon. In south Mumbai, Fort, Tardeo Road, Peddar Road and LJ road had slow-moving traffic.

Officials at the Mumbai traffic police said they are working to ease the congestion in water-logged areas.

Arterial roads in Bandra were also affected.

Water draining pumps are active to tackle the waterlogging problems, the BMC disaster control cell said.
