A day after the flood alert, the situation in Pune improved on Thursday with the irrigation department bringing down the water discharge from the Khadakwasla dam into the Mutha river in the city drastically.

The discharge was reduced to 4000 cusec as against 39,000 cusec last night. Cusec is a measure of flow of water and refers to cubic feet water per second.

The traffic situation in parts of the city is expected to normalise as police and civic authorities will open roads for vehicular movement. Bhide bridge, which is submersible, will be open in the next few hours for the traffic, civic officials said.

Around 100 families were shifted to safer places on Wednesday night. No major untoward incident has been reported so far.
