The state election commission (SEC) asked the state government to submit its say on the concessions granted to concert featuring British band Coldplay, organised by Global Citizen India at Bandra-Kurla Complex on November 19.
The state government has given 100% exemption in entertainment duty on the tickets sold and concession of 75% in fare of venue allotted for the concert at MMRDA ground. The step comes in the wake of Congress’ allegations that the concessions violate the code of conduct in force for municipal council and nagar panchayat elections.
In a letter written to chief secretary Swadheen Kshatriya, the commission asked the government to provide the information about the show. The SEC will decide on the objections after getting the clarifications. “We have attached a copy of the memorandum submitted by the Congress alongwith the letter to the government. We are expecting the reply by Wednesday, after which the decision will be taken,” said Shekhar Channe, secretary, SEC.

The Congress said the ruling party is expected to misuse the stage for political purpose. The party said since the Maharashtra government is a strategic partner for the show and as the show is likely to influence the potential voters, no politician should be allowed to share the dais. Congress city chief Sanjay Nirupam led a delegation of party leaders and met chief election commissioner JS Saharia urging him to take action.
