Swachh Survekshan 2018: Week-long inspection of Navi Mumbai begins today

Navi Mumbai was declared as the cleanest city of Maharashtra and adjudged as the eighth cleanest city in India last year

Just days after a team from the Central government inspected Mumbai to verify the city’s claim on maintaining cleanliness as part of the Swachh Bharat campaign, the Swachh Survekshan will begin in Navi Mumbai from today. The week-long survey concludes on February 13.

Navi Mumbai was declared as the cleanest city of Maharashtra and adjudged as the eighth cleanest city in India last year. But this year, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the city bags the title of the cleanest Indian city.

“A team from the Central government is coming today [Thursday] and will visit different parts of the city. Later, it will inspect our garbage collection and segregation mechanism and composting units, among others,” said Ankush Chavan, additional commissioner, NMMC.

Chavan said the team will randomly choose locations it wants to visit.

“A committee from Delhi will message them the list of places they must visit in Navi Mumbai. Our officials will only help them travel to those locations,” he said.
