Two more youths were arrested on Monday for allegedly blackmailing and repeatedly raping a 15-year-old girl for more than a year.
The total number of arrests now stand at eight. The last accused is said to have fled the city. The series of rape started over a year ago with one of the accused taking the girl to his home where he showed her a pornographic video. He forced himself on her while his friend secretly shot a video of the act. The friend used the video to blackmail her and raped her. The duo then circulated the video among the rest of the accused.
The incident came to light after the girl who was unwell told her mother who filed an FIR on Saturday.
The police have managed to recover the video that was used by the nine accused to allegedly blackmail and rape the girl.
A public prosecutor said, “The video proves that the girl’s allegations against the accused are true and it’s a crucial piece of documentary evidence.”
The police have recovered the mobile phones of some of the accused. They will send them to the forensic lab to establish to whom the video was circulated.
The two accused, who were arrested on Monday, were not even aware that an FIR was registered against them. They were in their hometown in Konkan and were asked to return home.
According to the Vile Parle police, all the accused live in the same locality. Eight accused are aged between 20 and 25 years. The last accused is 30 years old and his mother, a former corporator, is with the BJP.
On Monday, a group of around 30 women carrying whips came to the local police station, demanding the accused be handed over to them. One of the women said, “Hand over the accused to us for 10 minutes. We will give them a thrashing of their lives. What happened to that girl concerns all women in our society. It could happen to our daughters.”
