The police have recovered Rs20 lakh from Haider Mansoori, 23, arrested for his role in the Thane call centre scam, said sources.
Mansoori, who worked as a floor manager at one of the call centres run by mastermind Sagar Thakkar, was arrested on October 4. He was produced in a court on Friday and has been remanded in judicial custody.
The police also found that Mansoori’s car, Ford Ecosport, was used by one of the angadiyas to transport Rs2.20 crore in cash from Gujarat last month. The money was used to give out salaries of more than 150 employees and buy furniture and air-conditioners for the call centre. The car has been seized.
A police officer from Thane crime branch said, “Although Haider claimed he is not linked and was not aware of the scam, we have evidence against him. He lives in 1-BHK flat at Mira Road and earns Rs1lakh a month. He had joined the company recently, but managed to soon become the floor manager. He learned the tricks of the trade quickly.”
Haider was the main link between Sagar Thakkar and Jagdish Kanani, an investor. While Kanani and Haider have been arrested, Thakkar is absconding.
“Our team is in Gujarat. We are yet to get concrete leads. The mobile phones of the absconding accused are switched off. They are not active on social networking sites too. Apart from this, we are also questioning their families,” said the officer. “We have send hard disks and other documents to our team to get more information.”
