Two people, including a Kashmiri man, were arrested for illegal possession of a pistol on Sunday night.

Acting on a tip-off, the Navi Mumbai crime branch (unit 3) laid a trap at Taloja and arrested the two before they could flee. The police suspect they planned to use the gun to commit crimes.

Shiru Zuber Khan alias Parvez, 21, a native of Bihar, and Mansur Khan, 31, a native of Kashmir, have previous criminal cases lodged against them.

Tushar Doshi, deputy commissioner of police (crime), said, “Shiru was wanted in a dacoity case registered by Kamothe police earlier this year. Mansur has cases registered against him under the Arms Act. We are also trying to find out if they were planning to sell the weapon to someone in the city.”

The two have been remanded in police custody.
