The Navi Mumbai traffic department has decided to partially shut the new Vashi creek bridge from January 23 to February 12 so the public works department (PWD) can undertake maintenance work.
“The PWD will work on the expansion joints of the Panvel-Mumbai lane, which will thus be shut for motorists,” said Nitin Pawar, deputy commissioner of police (traffic).
He added that all vehicles going from Navi Mumbai to Mumbai will have to use the Mumbai-Vashi lane, while those travelling from Mumbai to Navi Mumbai will be diverted to the old Vashi bridge. “Light vehicles coming from Mumbai to Panvel will use the old bridge, which is adjacent to this one,” Pawar said. “As this bridge is not in a good condition, heavy vehicles will not be allowed on it.”
