Virar engineer attacked with stone on moving train

Tushar Raut was returning to his Virar (E) home from work on Friday when was hit by a stone, and fell on the footboard of the train.

A commuter from Virar was hit by a stone while he was travelling in the First Class coach of a passenger train to his home on Friday night. As a result, he received injuries on his right eye, but timely medical help prevented him from losing his eyesight. A case has been registered against unknown persons with the Vasai Government Railway Police (GRP).

Tushar Raut (32), a Network Engineer with Hindustan Computer Limited (HCL), Vile Parle, was returning to his Virar (E) home from work on Friday late evening and boarded the Valsad Fast Passenger.

He was standing near the footboard as the train was about to enter Virar station at around 7:20 pm, after it crossed the Virar car shed. All of a sudden, Raut was hit by a stone, and he fell on the footboard of the train. Said Raut, “Luckily due to the impact, I did not fall off the moving train. But I was worried that I would lose my right eye.”

Fellow passengers came to his rescue as Raut cried out in pain. As the train reached Virar, the GRP personnel who was standing right before the First Class coach, came to his help and took him to a government doctor.

“Since it was dark, I could not see the miscreants clearly, but I could see a group of 15 boys standing near the space just before the Virar platform,” said Raut. A complaint has been registered under Section 152 (malicious hurt) of the Railway Act, 1989 against unidentified persons by the Vasai GRP, who are investigating the case.
