NAVI MUMBAI: Two people were killed and four others were injured after an SUV they were travelling in ploughed into the railings of a bridge and fell into a 15-foot nullah near Lonavala on the Mumbai-Pune expressway on Thursday morning. The injured, including a 14-year-old boy, have been admitted to a hospital and are in critical condition, a senior police officer said. The SUV was carrying eight people who were returning to Mumbai from Satara.

The deceased were identified as Vijay Waghchure, 38, a resident of Goregaon and Suresh Kadam, 60, a resident of Surat.

“As the victims were crossing the bridge on the Pune-Mumbai route around 7 am, their vehicle hit the railings of the bridge and fell into the nullah,” said Balaji Gaikward, assistant police inspector of Lonavala police station.
