MUMBAI: The police on Wednesday arrested a senior citizen for allegedly molesting a seven-year-old girl at her home in Malad.

MUMBAI: The police on Wednesday arrested a senior citizen for allegedly molesting a seven-year-old girl at her home in Malad.

According to the police, the incident took place when the girl was playing on the terrace on Tuesday evening.

When the accused, Sitaraman Chaurasia, 70, started talking to the child and touched her inappropriately.

Scared, the girl ran from the spot and told her parents about the accused.

“Chaurasia has been arrested. We have registered a case of molestation against the accused,” said Sudhir Mahadik, senior inspector at Malad police station.

Chaurasia has been booked for molestation under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

The police said they have spoken to building residents over restricting entry to the premises to strangers. Investigating officials said they are probing if the accused has a criminal record and has targetted any other child in the past.
