MUMBAI: An autorickshaw driver was held for knocking down a Mumbai traffic police constable on the Western Express Highway (WEH) on Friday around 9:30pm.

Constable Javed Pirjade, 38, was at a checkpoint on the WEH at the end of the Andheri flyover when the incident took place. He spotted an approaching auto and signalled to the driver to halt. However, he refused to slow down.
“Instead of stopping at the policeman’s signal, the driver continued to speed up and then hit the constable. We have registered a case against the driver for obstructing a public servant from discharging his duty,” said Raksha Maharao, senior inspector at Vile Parle police station.
Pirjade sustained injuries on his leg when the vehicle ran over his foot. He also sustained a few bruises due to the impact of the crash.
Police personnel were able to get the registration number of the autorickshaw and were thus able to trace its driver on Saturday morning.
The accused, identified as Ramsinghar Gautam, was placed under arrest on the same day. He has been booked under sections 353, 332, and 337 of the Indian Penal Code along with section 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
