A 34-year-old man was arrested by the Uttan Coastal police for allegedly stalking a 17-year-old girl and pressuring her to marry him. The accused, Avinash Borgues, allegedly harassed the victim so much, her mother warned him to stay away from her and even shifted their place of residence.

However, Borgues continued to harass the minor and her mother finally complained to the police.
Borgues, a resident of Uttan, had been stalking the girl since January. The girl is a Standard 9 student of a Marathi medium school, said assistant police inspector Sarojna Mokalikar of Uttan Coastal police station. Borgues used to follow her from her school to her house and would pester her to marry him.
“We arrested Borgues under Section 354 (d) (stalking) of the Indian Penal Code and Sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012. He was remanded to police custody for a day. After being produced before the Thane court, he has been sent to the Taloja Central Jail,” said the official.
