Further investigation was necessary in the September 8, 2006, Malegaon bomb blasts, said the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday. It told a designated MCOCA court that mere one confession statement (of Swami Aseemanand) cannot negate the investigation by the Anti-Terrorist Squad.

The CBI counsel Raja Thakre said there was sufficient evidence given to the court against the nine accused and it would not be proper to conclude on the basis of the confession that the earlier investigation is negated.
While defending bail pleas filed by the accused, he said they had presented an unauthenticated copy of Aseemanand's confession. Thakre said there was nothing in the plea that negated the probe by ATS or the CBI.
Aseemanad in his confession had allegedly stated the role of Hindu right wing extremists in the 2006 Malegaon blasts.
