1,564 state residents rescued from Uttarakhand floods

About 1,564 tourists and pilgrims, out of the 2,765 people from Maharashtra who were stranded in Uttarakhand following the flash floods and landslides that took place in the region a week ago, have made their way back home.

“We have dispatched 2 helicopters and a 40-member team for the rescue process. Till now, we have been able to contact 2,509 people who were stranded there after the calamity struck,” said IA Kundan who heads the state disaster management cell.

Meanwhile chief minister Prithviraj Chavan paid a visit to New Delhi at the Maharashtra Sadan where over 200 pilgrims have been temporarily shifted before they will be sent home.

Earlier this week, Chavan had announced a relief package of Rs10 crore that was sent to the Uttar Pradesh government.

The government has also dispatched Rs50 lakh to the resident commissioner of Maharashtra Sadan to be spent for relief and rehabilitation.
There is a relief co-ordination camp set up by the state at Rajapura Road in Dehradun where the government is giving a cash grant of Rs2,000 per person.
