Eleven persons arrested by the Juhu police for allegedly pelting stones at film actor Anupam Kher’s Juhu residence were released on a cash bail of Rs5,000 each by the holiday court on Sunday.

The arrested accused — suspected to be to be affiliated with RPI (Athawale) — pelted stones at Kher’s residence on Saturday night, thereby damaging lights and windowpanes. The accused were reportedly protesting against Kher for allegedly making anti-constitutional remarks on a television channel during a discussion on corruption in country. On Saturday, a group of protesters also tore down a banner at Kher’s acting school in Santacruz.
The issue was raised by Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA Jitendra Awhad. The Maharashtra state legislature on Saturday admitted a breach of privilege notice against Kher for ‘insulting the constitution and challenging the powers of the state legislative assembly’.
Kher has denied making any anti-constitutional remarks.
