Stepping up their campaign against drink driving, the traffic police arrested 116 offenders on Sunday night; 35 of them were between 26 and 30 years old. Hindustan Times is partnering them in the campaign.

The checks were carried out at 100 junctions across the city. Of those arrested, 51 were produced before special metropolitan magistrate courts on Monday.
All 51 were given simple imprisonment ranging from one to seven days.
Of the other cases, 57 were adjourned, while eight drivers stayed away from the hearings. Warrants have been issued against them.
Two drivers were second-time offenders. They will be presented before the court on Wednesday. Five were found to be driving without licences; the licences of 46 were suspended for six months.
Of those arrested, 73 were on two-wheelers, while 32 were driving cars.
“We have stepped up the drive. We won’t allow any drunken driver to kill another soul in the city,” said Ashok Takalkar, assistant commissioner of police (traffic).
