The stop work notices were issued on Friday and includes nine mills owned by the National Textile Corporation (NTC), two mills owned by Bombay Dyeing and one mill in Lower Parel that the NTC sold to the DLF group, which is building a plush residential complex there.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation issued notices on the directions of a state-appointed panel that oversees sale and development of textile mill land.

The offenders have not given a part of the land to Mhada, which will build homes for mill workers, and haven’t withdrawn eviction notices to some tenants.

On February 26, the panel had asked the mills to take corrective action in a month. The landlords will now have to either comply or go to court.
