The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), on Tuesday, raided the premises of 14 Customs officers and staff who were allegedly bribed by a Customs house agent either with cash, electronic gadgets or air tickets. The agent, too, was raided.

A Customs house agent is a person or agency who helps importers and exporters clear consignments at ports and airports by completing official documentation formalities.
A senior CBI officer, requesting anonymity as he is not authorised to speak to the media, said agent Manish Sanghani’s phone had been kept under surveillance for six months as it was suspected he was bribing Customs officers in order to get his clients’ consignments cleared.
The officers raided include additional commissioner KC Johny, joint commissioners Uttam Jadhav and Ahibaran, assistant commissioner AP Dodeja, appraisers Ramesh Kumar, JN Meena, NN Chaturvedi, Ravinder Kumar, Dinesh Kumar, Munshiram Dhania and Nilesh Kadam, preventive officers Abhijit Jadhav and Shiv Kumar, and lower division clerk Asha Kunderi.
