Police have arrested a 20-year-old man after a minor girl accused him of raping her at Girgaum Chowpatty in the heart of south Mumbai on Friday.
Police said the 15-year-old girl told them she had met the man for the first time near the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus on Friday and got talking after which he took her to a secluded spot at Girgaum Chowpatty.
The girl confided in a social worker who took her to a home guard who brought her to the government railway police station at CST. The police then picked up the accused.
At the time of going to print, the girl had been sent for medical examination. GS Bhandare, deputy commissioner of police (Central Railways) said, "We are in the process of registering an FIR, and since the spot des-cribed by the victim falls in the jurisdiction of Mumbai police, we will transfer the case."
