She later surrendered to the police.

The accused, 16-year-old Aishwarya Iyer (name changed), had reportedly been working as an assistant at Dr Haresh Tolia's (53) clinic since the past few months.

A police official said the girl was reportedly having an affair with a boy who had given her Rs 2,000.

He asked her to return the amount after they separated recently.

"The girl who was under stress due to her inability to return the money, had a few days ago, narrated the story to the doctor," the official said.

"The doctor told the girl's parents about the same, which angered her," said inspector C. Puri of Ghatkopar police station.

The girl decided to take revenge by assaulting the doctor.

She went to the clinic as usual in the morning and had a fight with him. There was no one at the clinic at that time.

"She asked him for money, which he refused. In a fit of rage, she took out a blade from her bag and assaulted him," said another official.

"We saw Dr Haresh's neck cut. He was bleeding profusely," said Mahesh Sharma, a local.

The victim's family who are in a state of shock, refused to comment.

"We have inserted an artificial windpipe inside the patient, because of which he was able to give a statement to the police. He is under medical observation" said Dr Deepak Baid, Nulife hospital.
