A 17-year-old college student was arrested on Wednesday for beating his 16-year-old classmate to death. The MIDC police said the 17-year-old was furious that 16-year-old Ansh Agarwal had been rude to his mother.
Around 10.45pm on Tuesday in Andheri (E) the 17-year-old took 11 of his friends and allegedly attacked Agarwal with iron rods before running away. Agarwal was taken to a local hospital by friends but died later.

Earlier on Tuesday, Agarwal, a Class 11 student, had gone to the 17-year-old’s residence to confront him over an objectionable SMS the latter had allegedly sent to his friend a month ago. “When Agarwal did not find the 17-year-old at home he allegedly spoke rudely to his mother,” said an officer from MIDC police. When the 17-year-old returned home and learnt what happened he called his friends and attacked Agarwal,” the police said.
Deputy commissioner of police (Zone X) Dr Suhas Warke said, “The 17-year-old and two of his friends have been arrested on charges of murder and rioting.”
