Lakhmi Chand Gulab Singh (19), a sailor with the Indian Navy, died of heart attack on Sunday. Singh died after the training session from 6.30 am to 8 am at the catering school inside INS Hamla.
The police said Singh was from village Palwal in Haryana. After the selection process, he was sent to Mumbai for training.
On Sunday, the training session lasted for 90 minutes. After a 45-minute session of physical training, he took part in a 45-minute session of games with 142 cadets. After that, five of his classmates did rope climbing. Singh did not take part in it.
About 15 minutes later, he felt dizzy and collapsed. He was taken to INS Hamla Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
"Singh came to the city on May 17. Even though he was a cooking cadet, it is mandatory for everyone to undergo the training," said Senior police inspector V Aandhale of Malwani police station. "The post-mortem report suggests that he died due to coronary heart disease."
Captain Manohar Nambiar, chief public relations officer Ministry of Defence, said: "He had undergone his basic training course at INS Chilka in Orissa and had opted to be a cook with the Indian Navy."
