2 suspected LeT men held in Thane

Two oil tanker drivers in Maharashtra, who are natives of Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, and who are alleged to be Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operatives, have been arrested for suspected terrorist activities.

Mohammed Shareif Makhandeep Thakar, 33, and Mohammed Issac Mohammed Rashid Kumlakh, 29, were arrested outside a bar and restaurant at Kapurbawdi in Thane on November 15.

Two 7.65mm Tokarev pistols and 11 live cartridges were recovered from them.

“The duo had allegedly conducted a reconnaissance of military installations in Mumbai, Pune and Aurangabad, and had been asked to recruit oil tanker drivers who knew the roads and oil installations in Maharashtra, Gujarat and Rajasthan very well,” additional director general of police (ATS), Rakesh Maria, said.

Sharief had even conducted a recce of Mumbai Central station around two months ago.

ATS officials said the two had planned to sneak into Pakistan to undergo terrorist training on November 17.
