A two-year-old girl was found abandoned near the Bal Vikas Shishu Welfare trust at Pimpriwada in Kurar, Malad (East). Even after much attempt to trace the family of the child, the police have been unable to find anyone.
On the evening of November 15, the security guard of the trust spotted the child. When no one came to claim her, he informed the Kurar police.
“The security guard picked up the crying child when she came crawling to him. He searched around to find her parents,” said senior inspector Mohan Sankhe of Kurar police station.
“When he could not trace anyone he realised that she had been abandoned. He immediately informed us about the incident,” he said.
On learning about the incident, a police officer along with a woman police constable went to the spot and tried to look for the girl’s parents. However, none of the locals had seen anybody abandoning the child.
The child was then taken to the Mankhurd Child Welfare home but they asked the police to keep her at the trust.
“Abandoning a child below 12 years of age is punishable under section of section 317 of the Indian Penal Code. We will first try to trace the parents of the girl and then ascertain whether they had abandoned her,” said a police officer.
