According to the Oshiwara police, the victim, an MCom student and a resident of Millat Nagar in Jogeshwari (West), started receiving obscene calls on December 13 last year.

When she inquired where the men got her number from, she learnt that a page had been created on Facebook, inviting people to call her if they were interested in explicit conversations.

“I received about eight to 10 calls. I blocked my SIM card the next day and confided in my parents. Following their advice, I approached the Oshiwara police to file a complaint. They directed me to the cyber cell that shut the page,” she said.

The victim said the cyber cell had promised her they would provide her with a report about the creator of the page. However, she did not get a response from them for about three months. When she approached them again in February, the cyber personnel told her that the report had been sent to the Oshiwara police, who in turn claimed that they never received the report and that the Internet Protocol (IP) address of the accused’s computer was not traced.

When contacted, Nandkishore More, senior inspector, cyber police station at Bandra-Kurla Complex said he was not aware of the case and would look into it.

Meanwhile, the Oshiwara police said they had brought in two to three persons for questioning, but had no leads .

However, they are certain that a person known to the woman committed the crime. “We are investigating the case. No arrests have been made so far,” said Dilip Rupawate, senior inspector, Oshiwara police station.
