Shayana Pawar (24), who strutted the ramp on her stilettos at the auditions of the first transgender talent hunt at a Prabhadevi hotel, said she would go for silicone implants if she won the Rs10 lakh prize money.

A second participant said she was a sex worker and needed the money for her future. A third contestant said she would buy a house for herself.

Tamanna Sheikh walked down the ramp in a short purple dress to the tune of Jalwa from Fashion. And just like the actresses in the film, Sheikh struck a pose like an expert model. Totally at ease on the ramp, Sheikh said she was just happy to do the catwalk.

“I always wanted to be a model,” she added.

They will compete with semi-finalists from nine other cities on February 21 for the queen’s crown and the prize money.

The contest is being organised by transgender activist Laxmi Tripathi and V-Care Group of Companies as part of its corporate social responsibility.

“We are not looking for beauty queens but rather someone who is willing to proudly display herself and prove that transgenders are as human as others,” said Tripathi.
