Three men were arrested when they were trying to flee on a motorbike after robbing an auto driver of his cash and mobile phone at Kurla on Sunday.

The accused have been identified as Asif Sheikh, Abdul Majeed, and Shadab Sheikh — all in their early twenties. The police said the accused were found to be drunk at the time of arrest. The police said the trio threatened and robbed Shashi Singh (30), an auto driver, of Rs 450 cash and a mobile phone, when he was attending nature's call at a secluded road in Panth Nagar. The trio then escaped on a bike. Singh who first tried chasing them on foot later followed them in the auto, but failed to get hold of them.
Singh then informed a police constable who was posted at a junction, the officials said. The constable sent a message from his wireless set informing about the trio escaping on a bike. Police teams from all the nearby police stations got into act and began chasing the accused.
The Nehru Nagar police nabbed the accused after their bike ran out of fuel. The accused, residents of Ghatkopar, told the police during interrogation that they committed the crime for fun.
