They recovered valuables worth Rs 2.6 lakh from them.

The three accused were identified as Ganesh Mani Swamy (30), Anna Hiwade (27) and Manoj Shringare alias Manya. The police said the trio would allegedly zoom past the victims on their bikes after snatching their chains. The accused would also target automobile drivers on highways. A police officer from Chembur said, “The accused would ask the driver for help by saying that there was smoke coming out from the car’s engine. When the driver would get out of his car, one of the accused would distract him, while the other would steal valuables kept in the victim’s car.”

The police said Swamy, who was arrested from Chembur, has around 22 cases against him. Hiwade, who has nine cases, was arrested from Nehru Nagar and Shringare was arrested from Chembur. Senior police inspector of Chembur, Bhimrao Rathod said, “There are more accomplices who assisted the accused in executing the crimes.”
