State Director General of Police A.N. Roy has assured unprecedented and foolproof security for the four IPL matches to be held at DY Patil Stadium this week, starting Wednesday.

Roy said forces and technical teams from across the state would be deployed and has appealed to spectators and the media to cooperate to ensure no untoward incident takes place.

Roy inspected the stadium in Nerul on Monday along with Navi Mumbai police commissioner Gulabrao Pol, IPL officials and stadium head Vijay Patil. Roy said: “In view of the unfortunate incident at Bangalore, two semi-final matches have been shifted here and we have been asked to provide security at a short notice. We intend to provide foolproof security.”

The police will seal the stadium from 2 pm on Tuesday. “Only those with proper photo identity cards and having work within the stadium will be allowed inside,” Roy said. “Media vans too will have to be in place by 2 pm on Tuesday. Anyone connected with work within stadium will not be permitted if he does not do so in time.”

The team movements will be a closely guarded secret. “Special arrangements are being made to ensure the players are fully secured at all times. We, of course, will not reveal how and when they will travel.”

Asked if there had been a specific input from the intelligence bureau on threats to the matches, Roy said: “There is a threat perspective to every IPL match and that is why such elaborate arrangements are being made.”
