The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) recorded 331 complaints about potholes in the first 11 days of June. This is even before the monsoon has set in.

If this was not enough, the civic body received complaints about 762 potholes across the city between May 8 and June 11.
The road restoration work in the city is not yet complete even though the deadline was extended from May 31 to June 10.
As per the data available, the number of potholes reported by citizens or by the BMC staff from November 2011 is 1,181. Of this, 972 potholes have been assigned for restoration work. However, only about 300 have been repaired so far.
The number of potholes not attended to within the stipulated 48-hour time limit set by BMC is 170, as per information obtained by Hindustan Times.
Additional Municipal Commissioner Rajiv Jalota said: “I do not have the exact figure. But what we have observed is several roads, which were not looked after by the authorities, are also coming under the scanner. More and more people are coming forward and are responding to BMC’s initiative by submitting photos of potholes.”
According to Jalota, a number of potholes come under the jurisdiction of other authorities such as Mumbai Metropolitan Road Development Authority (MMRDA) and Public Works Department (PWD), and will not be attended to by BMC contractors.

{{/usCountry}}Senior civic officials are hopeful that the new cold-mix technology which will be used to repair roads this year will give the best possible results.
The four cold mix technologies shortlisted are Wonder Patch, Patchmaker, Road Bond and Carboncor. The civic body has also made it mandatory that the 12 contractors it has selected should attend to complaints about potholes within 48 hours.
