More than a year after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took over the case where a father kidnapped his year-old son in January 2008, it has no clue about his whereabouts.

The CBI informed the Bombay High Court this week that they were unable to trace the father, Nanaksingh Biji, who had kidnapped son Gurashish after separating from his wife Manpreet.

CBI advocate, Mandar Goswami, told the high court that they had recently received calls from Nanaksingh saying he wanted to surrender. “But, he never appears before the police,” CBI officials said.

“We have received calls from some international mobile numbers, which he has been constantly changing. We are doing everything we can to trace him,” Goswami said. Despite their lack of success, the CBI has now sought four more weeks to trace him.

Granting the CBI four weeks, a division bench of justices A M Khanwilkar and P D Kode remarked, “Trace him quickly. We have to keep the welfare of the child in mind.” Manpreet Biji, 30, had approached the HCs in 2008 after her estranged husband kidnapped their year-old son Gurashish and fled.
