Some of the notable transfers include that of former Pune police commissioner and additional director general (establishment) Satyapal Singh, who has taken over as additional director general (law and order, state) and Amitabh Gupta, who has been promoted from additional commissioner of west region to special inspector general (training and special units).

Vishwas Nangre Patil, who is one of the officers who entered the Taj hotel along with constables soon after the 26/11 attacks began, has replaced Gupta. He has been promoted and brought to the city from Thane, where he was posted as superintendent of police (rural).

The post allotted to Singh - additional director general (law and order) - had been vacant since KP Raghuvanshi was made the Thane police commissioner earlier this year. In 2003-04, Singh had served as joint commissioner of police (crime) in Mumbai and was credited with playing a key role in keeping a check on the underworld. Sanjay Pande, who had quit police services and made a failed foray into politics by contesting in the 2004 Assembly polls, has been reinstated into the force as special inspector general (special security). Pande is credited with investigating the shoe scam that came to light in 1997.

Ashok Dongare, who was with the purchase department at the state police headquarters, is now Navi Mumbai's additional commissioner. His earlier post is vacant as of now. "Now that these transfers are done, we have scheduled transfers at the levels of Superintendent of Police (SP) and Deputy Superintendent of Police within the next week," Home Minister RR Patil said.
