Five policemen investigating an accident on the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli link Road (JVLR) were injured when a Tata Sumo crashed into a police van early on Saturday.
While two of the injured policemen were discharged after first-aid, three policemen are still in hospital. The driver of the car was injured as well and is also in hospital.
Police found a beer bottle in the car and suspect it to be a case of drink driving. However, there was no confirmation of the same as medical reports are not yet available.
Late on Friday night, Powai police received a call reporting that a cement mixer had overturned on JVLR. With the Prime Minister’s visit afoot, a team of six officials was dispatched to investigate.
“The police van was stationary and the officers were checking the extent of the damage to the container when a speeding Tata Sumo hit the police van. Five officers who were in and around the van sustained injuries,” said senior inspector Bajirao Bhosle.
