50-year-old man attacked for opposing redevelopment

A 50-year-old man opposing the proposed redevelopment of around 1,800 slums in the Bhandup area as part of a Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) project was attacked on Sunday night while on his way home.

A 50-year-old man opposing the proposed redevelopment of around 1,800 slums in the Bhandup area as part of a Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) project was attacked on Sunday night while on his way home. Krishnakumar Rane, a clerk with a private bank, got eight stitches on his head and one near his eye. His family said Rane had been filing queries under the Right to Information Act for the past six months, to get details about the land where redevelopment was proposed.

The Bhandup police have registered a case of causing grievous hurt using dangerous weapons against unidentified persons. Senior inspector of Bhandup police station, Srirang Nadgouda, said, "Rane said he does not know the people who attacked him. We are exploring all angles including any connection with the project that Rane had been opposing."
