A security guard along with his two accomplices on Wednesday evening robbed a 51-year-old woman after tying her with a cellphone charger. The accused later fled with cash and valuables worth over Rs 2.24 lakh from her bungalow located in Santacruz (West).

The police said Zehra Tambawala, the victim managed to free herself and approached the other security guard and family members, who then informed the police.

The initial investigation done by police revealed that the security guard was hired just over two months ago on the reference given by their earlier security guard.

The accused entered the bungalow when Tambawala was alone and her husband and son had gone out. He allegedly knocked the door and barged into the room along with his accomplice after she opened it. Tambawala was slapped and cupboard keys were taken from her, the police said. The trio later tied her with a cellphone charger and fled with the booty after opening the cupboard.

Senior police inspector, Madhukar Chaudhary, of Santacruz police station said, “We are trying to gather more information about the guard from his friends.”
