On Sunday alone, 58 persons were charged for indecent behaviour under Section 110 of the Bombay Police Act.

The squads have been formed in most of the police stations in the Western suburbs and have so far charged 140 persons, in just six days, under the act.

The formation of the special squad was prompted by the murders of Keenan Santos and Reuben Fernades.

On Friday, a man was booked under section 509 (intent to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code, by the Nirmal Nagar police, after he allegedly made lewd gestures at a woman in Bandra (east).

On the very first day of its formation, the squad arrested 33 persons for indecent behaviour.

All of them were booked under sections 110 and 117 of the Bombay Police Act, fined Rs1200 each and asked to appear before the court.

The squad comprises of a police sub inspector, two female and two male constables, responsible of keeping a tab on incidents of eve teasing in their jurisdiction.

The squad members are dressed in plain clothes and keep a close watch on colleges, gardens, pubs and malls.
