The pattern of the paper will also change, with more short answers. The aim is to make the paper more objective as well as improve and standardise the quality of corrections. "The proposal will come up for approval in the academic council meeting on May 25. Currently, apart from the applied component of the BCom stream such as income tax and export, all other papers in the final year are of 100 marks," said a university official.

With the credit, semester and grade system being introduced from July for first-year students, the pattern with 60 marks for external exams and 40 marks for internal evaluation will soon become a norm.

A credit system for the bachelors of mass media and social work will also be on the agenda of the academic council. Currently, they only follow the semester system. These courses too will have 120 credits, across six semesters. The credits will include project work, language and skill-based courses along with special and foundation courses.

The internal assessment will be based on periodical class tests, an assignment, conduct and participation of students in class.

"We have designed a format for both these undergraduate courses. It will be approved in the academic council meeting," said Parvathi Venketesh, former dean, faculty of arts and member of the committee that formulated the credit system for the university.
