While Colaba recorded a rainfall of 22.6 mm, Santacruz received 33 mm of rain. Kandivli in the western suburbs recorded the highest rainfall at 28.7 mm.

With no waterlogging reported in the city, suburban rail services remained unaffected.

“There have been no cancellation of trains on Sunday, but some trains entering Mumbai have been rescheduled and delayed,” said SC Mudgerikar, chief spokesperson, Central Railway.

It being a Sunday, there were no jams due to less traffic.

Airport authorities in Mumbai said while some flights were delayed due to rain, there were no cancellations or significant delays.

Catchment areas of the six lakes that supply water to the city recorded rainfall after 15 days. The highest rainfall was recorded at Vihar at 30 mm.

Currently the total water stock in the six lakes is about 9.3 lakh million litres while the city requires at least 13 lakh million litres of water to suffice through the year.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this sudden spell of rainfall is a result of a well-marked low-pressure area in Andhra Pradesh. It entered Andhra Pradesh three days ago, and has since then moved westwards into Maharashtra.

Most Mumbaiites welcomed the spell as a refreshing change from the heat that prevailed during the week. “It is nice, cool weather to enjoy a drive. All my friends are out having fun in the rain,” said Ravish Raizada (18), a student.
