Abandoned ship catches fire

The Indian Coast Guard said that it is finding it difficult to douse the fire which broke out on the Merchant Vessel Mol Comfort on Saturday. The vessel broke into two on June 17 when it was loaded with 4,500 cargo containers some 880 nautical miles from Mumbai. HT reports.

The Indian Coast Guard said that it is finding it difficult to douse the fire which broke out on the Merchant Vessel Mol Comfort on Saturday. The vessel broke into two on June 17 when it was loaded with 4,500 cargo containers some 880 nautical miles from Mumbai.

The Coast Guard is also taking steps to stop it from drifting towards Indian shores.

The officials added that the vessel was moving towards Indian waters at a speed of 3 knots per hour following the fire which broke out on Saturday. The officials added that the derelict vessel is now 365 nautical miles west of Mumbai and is bound for port Sohar in Oman.

On June 17, a crew of 26 persons, on board the vessel, was rescued by the Coast Guard.
