Ashutosh Tiwari, a labourer and resident of Santosh Bhuvan area, was arrested on suspicion that he had allegedly stolen some railway property from the Nallasopara station.

Tiwari was rushed to Bhagwati hospital in Borivli and was declared dead at 6 pm.

Police sources said that they are investigating the cause of death and how Tiwari managed to get the blade.

Previously, the Bombay High Court had handed over the probe into the custodial death of Altaf Shaikh (22) to CBI and ordered filing of a murder case against three police officers.

Shaikh, arrested last month in connection with a house break-in case, was found dead in jail.

The police had said that the death was due to overdose of drug but the post mortem report revealed several injuries on his body.
