ACP suicide: Family refuses to record statement

While police say they need Gaikwad's family to record their statements in order to take the case forward, the family says they will do so only if they are unhappy with the investigation.

According to Ramrao Pawar, additional commissioner of police (north region), the police cannot proceed with investigations until Gaikwad's wife and children record their statements. "If Gaikwad's family makes an allegation about abetment to suicide or even murder, we will investigate the case along those lines," Pawar said.

When asked whether the statements of Gaikwad's driver and orderly had been recorded to find out if Gaikwad was being blackmailed, Pawar said, "Their statements will not be sufficient until Gaikwad's wife confirms anything being mentioned to her about the blackmail or Gaikwad's affair."

Gaikwad's younger brother, Murli, a doctor in Aurangabad, said they would approach the police only if they were not satisfied with the investigations.

Murli said. "My brother's family is in shock and will approach the police later. We suspect foul play and have demanded a CBI enquiry." He added, "My brother was not the kind of person who would end his life over a threat."
